Q: Have you heard from any of the tribes and in particular the one on which this was based?
Alex Meraz: The fascinating thing about portraying a tribe that actually does exist is that the stuff Stephenie had taken from the tribe, she kind of mixed it in the realm of fantasy. But now a lot of people are going to Washington State, they’re going to La Push where the Quileute tribe actually does reside, and they’re learning more. They’re forced to ask questions, learn more about the culture. And I think that that’s great that they’re getting a spotlight to introduce and to tell the story, the real creation story. That’s important. I think that fans are so into it that they want to learn where this germinated from, the root of where the wolf pack comes from.
Alex Meraz never got the chance to expose his chiseled torso. When he was involved in the production of Chris Weitz-directed movie “The Twilight Saga’s New Moon” however, the Paul depicter was seen flashing his amazing abs as he took on the role of wolf pack’s volatile member. His downside, in the meantime, is the fact that he prefers donning casual outfits instead of sporting formal suits while attending special events. Still, the 24-year-old can be expected to show off his ripped body in “The Twilight Saga’s Eclipse”.

You are Native American, so this is probably refreshing.
It definitely was. I personally was shocked when I heard that the books had a huge Native component in them. It was the whole part of the wolf pack, and I didn’t know how big the wolf pack was until I read about it. I was just shocked that people were interested, you know what I mean? So I thought, “Wow, that’s amazing. I totally want to be part of something like that.”
On Tuesday, December 15th at 11pm ET/PT, MTV’s “Styl’D” will go behind the scenes with Twilight’s Alex Meraz for an “LA Confidential” styled photo shoot.
We asked him what his reaction was to New Moon being the third highest opening in film history, and he said, “Its great and fantastic that it’s doing so well. I am just glad that fans have been coming in droves to watch it. Also the fact that there are newer fans that are coming to watch it. I mean the numbers speak for itself.”

New Moon werewolf Alex Meraz hit the AMAs with his stunningly beautiful wife, Kim. He joked that producers are “printing money off this movie.” Even so, he insists no one has officially told him Breaking Dawn is a definite.
“I’m waiting by the phone,” Meraz said. “I’ll let you know what I find out.”

But he adds, ”they’re so respectful. They come out and they’re so respectful of me being wherever I’m at.
“So it’s pretty fun and I just try to include them in everything I do. You know, with my Tweet. I Tweet around. I have a really big family now.”

In the current issue of OK!, hunky New Moon werewolf Alex Meraz, opens up about his views on romance and art.
When it comes to finding that special someone, the 24-year-old married father advises, “Be open-minded and don’t have a checklist of what you do and don’t want. It happens when you least expect it.”
In fact, Alex’s first date with his wife Kim took place in “a cellar bar with a jazz singer, wine and gourmet pizza.” These days, the couple’s dates are just as down-to-earth, featuring “the couch, TV and popcorn.”
When he is playing the role of a shirtless werewolf, Alex is pursuing his passion for painting.
“I hope to have a gallery opening next year,” he said. “That’s my New Year’s resolution.”

Q: Has being a part of this franchise affected your lives, in a positive way?
Alex: I think also, as representatives for Native Americans in this franchise, we have a responsibility not to present a bad image. We’re portraying Natives, and that’s what they’re going to see. I think it’s time for us to rewrite what Hollywood’s take on Native Americans was, which was long hair blowing and a noble kind of people, like in leather and feather period pieces. Now you see something in a contemporary setting, and you see us being humans. It’s a great thing. Well, we’re kind of human, but we’re not demonized, which is important. It’s done in a very tasteful way.
Q: The breakfast table scene is really interesting because that’s the aftermath of the big explosion. What was that like to film?
Alex: To speak more on that, it’s the first time you actually see them more as humans. You see the relationship, and that we’re brothers. Before then, it’s a little more ominous. There’s more foreshadowing. You see the scene before, where Paul tries to kill Bella. So, that’s the first time you see the friskiness and playfulness, which I think really helps out.

I felt more responsibility to the Quilete tribe than anything because I wanted to represent their tribe in a respectful manner. I’ve been fortunate enough to find out that the die-hard fans are extremely supportive.
