“I did the audition and was lucky enough to to get a role. I heard there were like 70,000 people who went out for the wolf pack. It’s like winning the lottery.”
Both are stunned by the hoopla — which started even before the movie came out.
“I was kind of bewildered that I just did a movie — my first movie — and now I have tons of fans,” said Meraz. “People are so passionate. You’re stepping into a hot skillet.”

Just got back from seing New Moon I loved it better than Twilight.

Meraz may be famous now, but here he’s still called by his capoeira nickname “Gabiru,” which is Portuguese for a fast, sneaky rat.
“My measure of my success would not be that I got this great movie — it’s that I have always had really great people in my life,” Meraz said.

“I think guys won’t mind if their girlfriend drags them to a Twilight film this time because there is a very masculine side to this film. It brings a whole different level of excitement. The wolves are much more animalistic and raw and unrefined compared to the vampires in their fancy house with their nice cars. Vampires are older and more suave and mature. The shapeshifters are not. We are young, aggressive and have tons of testosterone and nudity. It will make for a more balanced date night movie selection. And even if guys don’t want to see it, if they want to see their girlfriends, they better go because that’s where their girls will be. And I feel like we are buttering up their girls with our abs so they could get lucky.”
